oh FUN. keita doesn't lie outright often, but he does tend to skirt the truth sometimes, and karna is free to pick up on that for sure!
as far as intentions and true nature... keita is sort of complicated. he is inherently someone who is always trying to do the greatest good for the most people; he loves deeply and suffers from a lot of self-loathing over the choices he's had to make. on the other hand, he has also been pretty ruthless in the pursuit of that greatest good, including things like building a series of prison camps (the construction of which killed hundreds, but also somehow led to the cure for tuberculosis) or allowing his friend to murder his wife and cover it up (because his wife was already dying of cancer and wanted keita to use her death for something good; this later prevented the early annexation of korea and saved japan from war)... so like.... however karna would read all that...
